The world famous Jorvik Viking Centre is a "must-see" for visitors to the city of York and is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the UK outside London.
York Archaeological Trust, archaeologists and specialists from many countries carried out research on the wealth of detail recovered from the excavations. This research enabled to re-create more of what had been discovered.
At Jorvik you can explore Viking history on the very site where archaeologists discovered the remains of the Viking city of Jorvik. You can also meet and talk to resident Vikings (staff), and see 800 of the items found during the dig. You can even journey back to a reconstruction of York (Jorvik), complete with the sights, sounds and smells of the Viking-Age, where the houses and shops are laid out in exactly the same pattern as they were at AD975, and even the faces of the people you see have been reconstructed from Viking skulls.
